  • National Letters of Intent Signed by 2015 Class

    avalanche97premier 20150204_190507

February 4th 2015 is the day that thousands of college bound athletes across the country will sign their letters of intent. Signing this letter will commit these young athletes to the Universities where they plan to spend their next four years earning their degrees while playing collegiate sports. Today Utah Avalanche Girls Soccer Club will have Twenty-Three young women sign these letters with only a few remaining in the club's 2015 class waiting to decide their futures. The club is well on its on the way to completing yet another class of 100% placement so we will report those decisions as they are made, but for now we will recognize those that will be signing their letters throughout the day.

Congrats ladies and we will be watching for the great things that you will continue to do!

10407977_782545868465355_3062608706219679774_nAvalanche 06 TP - Presidents Cup Champions! Our U9's coached by Tony Pruitt and Rick Dunn established themselves as the Best of the Best in Utah taking the #1 spot in the Top bracket of the Presidents Cup in Mesquite, Nevada. Congratulations Ladies!
  • Ireland Dunn

Ireland Dunn (Avalanche 98 ECNL) made the ODP Region IV All-Star Team. Ireland helped lead Utah to a 3-1 record at the ODP Championships in Phoenix, Arizona January 8th-11th. You can read more about her honor here. Congrats Ireland!
  • High School All Americans

Kyra Fawcett and Hailey Skolmoski from the 97 ECNL Team were selected to participate in the 2nd Annual High School All-American Game. They were selected from among the top High School Seniors in Utah. The game was played in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 13th, 2014.

    20141213_145913 20141213_145937

These two teammates showed the country what Utah and Avalanche soccer is all about. Hailey started the scoring for the West by breaking through a tough East defense on a well played ball to the top left corner of the 18. She calmly chested it down around the keeper who was coming out hard and gently settled it far post back of the net. She continued to cause the East defense stress throughout the game opening up opportunities for her teammates. Kyra's goal came in the second half on a beautifully crossed ball to a wide open Kyra who calmly placed it into the back of the net! The West went on to win 5-0. They were both awarded game balls for their goals.

Both girls said they had an amazing time at this once in a lifetime experience and really enjoyed playing with some of the top talent in the country.

Hailey was also named to the Best XI team for the All-American game by Top Drawer Soccer:

"Hailey Skolmoski, Riverton (Utah), Utah : Skolmoski was a very underrated player, but emerged simply as a finisher. She just has a way of getting the ball in the net. Once the whistle blew, she simply made the defense work. She made a great play to get the West on the scoreboard. The profile on her was that she is a scorer, and she came through, sparking the West victory."

Way to represent ladies and congratulations to both of you!

  • Karen Chin Elected to Utah Soccer Hall of Fame!!

karen HoFOn August 16, 2014, Karen Chin was inducted into the Utah Soccer Association Hall of Fame. The Utah Soccer Association administers, regulates, and promotes the development of soccer within the State of Utah. The Association runs the adult leagues within the state, as well as creates programs and player opportunities at a regional and national level. The Hall of Fame recognizes the contributions at a state, region, and national level made by people within the organization. There have been 44 people inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1997. You can see pictures of all of the Hall of Fame inductees at Rio Tinto stadium on the west side of the stadium.

Karen helped form FC Utah, a women's team that played locally as well as out of state. During a six year span between 1995-2000, FC Utah won five State Championships, five Nikolai Challenge Cup Championships, and two Utah Open Cup Championships. The team traveled extensively to tournaments in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, and New Mexico on an annual basis. In addition, Karen also formed the first over-30 women's team in Utah, which was put together to compete in over-30 tournaments outside Utah. During her playing time, she also served on the Board of Directors of the Association as a Vice President overseeing the women's league and was instrumental in helping to build new teams with interested players who needed a team. Her efforts were exceptional as that league had been in disarray and her organizational skills were instrumental in the revival of the women's league. Karen has been with Avalanche for 14 years now and has coached multiple teams with the club including the 92s, 93s, 94s & 99s. Since then she has taken over the Avalanche Academy program, driving the development of our youngest players. Karen is a beloved member of the club and we are very happy for her achievements and this award is a great indication of not only her value to the club, but her value to the state of Utah as a whole. Congratulations Karen!! Here's to another 14 plus years with the club!

  • With talent and belief you can go far

A recent article put out by UYSA about the step by step process to reach the top in youth soccer.

    UYSA

By Joe Cannon Listening to my twin brother tell me about the local soccer club scene in the San Francisco Bay Area, I realized this was a problem not restricted to his family. With AYSO, Cal North, NorCal, ECNL and the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy, parents are overwhelmed with where to place or what to do with their aspiring little Messis, Ronaldos or Donovans. In my brother's case, it's his oldest son, Jace. Jace is 5 years old and is looking for a soccer club to help him get started in the sport. Not only are there so many programs, but there are so many parents with so many different opinions. Which one is right? Where will my son or daughter want to play? Will they be happy? Coaches, parents, and everyone in it seem to have an opinion on everything. Read More...

  • Who is watching you play?

ECNL_TEXAS-MAIN_LOGO SmallIn the last week of February 2014, our U15, U16 & U17 ECNL teams made their way to Dallas for the ECNL's Texas National Event. As is the usual, it was very well attended by college coaches. The ECNL has become the place to play according to topdrawersoccer.com "As each year passes, the Elite Clubs National League seems to add some speed to its growing head of steam. With 76 member clubs for the 2013-14 season, the girls answer to the U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy has flourished as the country’s premier stop for elite girls club development. Since its founding in 2009, the ECNL has consolidated its power nationally in a girls soccer landscape previously dominated by hyper-local high school programs. That meant shorter seasons, more unbalanced games and existent but more fragmented college identification formats. In that sense, the ECNL is beginning to grow into its next stages of life as the nation’s club league of record." If you don't believe them just take a look at who was watching Avalanche teams first hand over the weekend. This is just a list of the colleges (and other organizations) that sat down to watch an Avalanche game, although there were many other schools in attendance as well.

The Avalanche teams had an overall record of 3-2-4 on the weekend against some very tough competition, and got some very good exposure. This was a very average weekend for us in terms of attendance, stay tuned to see who comes to watch us play in the next coupe events. With the ECNL's San Diego National Event about a month away, we expect to see a great turnout at the polo grounds. In San Diego last year we saw nearly every school in the west out and about. If you noticed, we also had a couple different representatives from US Soccer on hand to give our girls the opportunity to show themselves, in their natural environment, to National staff coaches which is another great opportunity for the girls.
