97 ECNL tops Nations #1 in Dallas

97s lean on each other for results

Dallas – Sunday February 24

On a blustery day in Dallas the Utah Avalanche 97 ECNL team matched up against FC Bucks, the nation’s #1 team according to gotsoccer.com. With adverse conditions they found their way to goal once in each half to secure a 2-0 win. The first goal of the match came directly off a corner from Lexi Holden as she whipped in a bent ball from the left side. The insurance goal came midway through the second half on a beautiful through ball from Caroline Corbett to McKell Kellogg who effortlessly tucked it away in the near post as the goalkeeper came charging out. The game saw a great defensive effort from Allie Millerberg who had the unenviable task of taking on “the beast from the east”, a tall athletic forward from the FC Bucks squad. Allie found a way to continuously frustrate their most dangerous player for 80 minutes, keeping her harmlessly away from goal. Isabell “iPod” Jones had another solid game in goal notching her second shutout of the weekend. A concerted group effort led to a successful National Event with many more to come as the group continues to progress.

Earlier in the weekend the 97s picked up a hard fought 1-0 win over San Juan SC and drew 1-1 with a very technical St Louis Scott Gallagher side after giving up a late goal.

Kyra Fawcett & Ireland Dunn added crucial goals on the weekend. Grace Sponaugle solidly anchored the back line that only allowed one goal in three tough games.
