Avalanche Studs Take ODP Championships By Storm

Ireland Dunn who plays for Joanna Barney’s 97 ECNL team & Mariah Elmer from Jimmie Powell’s 95 ECNL group were recently named to the Region IV ODP Championships All-Tournament Team

In early January, Utah sent teams in the 96, 97 & 98 age groups to the Region IV ODP Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada. After a hard fought weekend two Utah Avalanche players stood out amongst the crowd & were selected for the All-Tournament teams.

Ireland Dunn, who has burst onto the national scene recently as a regular in National Camps, put her ability on display in the abnormally freezing Vegas conditions. Ireland looked right at home as she sliced through opposing defenders on a consistent basis. Ireland’s technical skill in tight spaces and her ability to get to goal were well received by the college coaches in attendance. Later this month Ireland will continue her great representation of the club as she travels to Costa Rica with the u17 team from Region IV.

Mariah Elmer lead the Utah 96 team to an appearance in the final against Southern California in which the team fell 2-1 in overtime. Mariah had a solid weekend giving opposing back lines fits all weekend long with her outstanding pace and vision. Mariah recently committed to attend the University of Utah after over a year of weighing options from some of the country’s top programs. She is really excited about her decision to become a Ute citing her desire to compete at a high level program in arguably the nations toughest conference. The ability to have that option in a school so close to home made the University of Utah a perfect match.

Hailey Skolmoski was not named to the All-Tournament team this time, but shortly after the event she was invited to the National Training Camp at the end of January.

-As a club we are very proud of these girls and their well deserved recognition!
